![]() The S&M community, being one of the few communities that knew exactly what it was to be shunned and ostracized for your sexual preferences, was one of the few places that was welcoming to LGBT people. The leather subculture in particular literally emerged after lots of gay men were kicked out of the military and started emulating a certain fashion style. The leather/BDSM subculture was closely associated with the LGBT liberation movement since its beginning. There’s a few historical aspects that I think people are missing. I’m honestly kind of shocked by the amount of hostility in this thread. I just can't get my head around why anyone would even think it is okay to do this, and it annoys me so much that I can't even express my annoyance coherently □ hopefully you get the point.Įxactly. Furthermore there are gay parents who might take their children to the parades, the children should not have to see grown adults walking around in gimp suits or leather shorts. ![]() ![]() We obviously all know that there are straight people who are into this stuff as well but in most media it tends to be attributed to gay men, they again just reinforce this idea. It is thanks to the idiots who go out in all that gear that there are still people who see homosexuality as nothing more than a sex thing, and they reinforce that idea everytime they do this. If someone is into that stuff then that is fine, whatever floats your boat, but to then take it outside and parade it in an event that should be about creating a positive image and showing that being gay is perfectly normal and is not a perverse sex thing as a lot of people thought it was in the past and some still seem to think today, it is grossly inappropriate. As a gay male I find it totally unacceptable that there are people who attend the gay pride parades wearing bondage gear, gimp suits, and the leather sex outfits. ![]()
